2024 ASEAN Visiting Fellowship Program


1. Overview

Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) has established ASEAN Visiting Fellowship Program in order to promote policy-relevant academic exchanges and studies between Republic of Korea (ROK) and ASEAN member states. The Program is intended to provide scholars and experts in Southeast Asia with an opportunity to visit and stay in ROK for an extended period of time, interact with scholarly and policy community in Korea, and perform policy-relevant study on ROK-ASEAN related issues. KNDA will provide all the necessary financial support for the visiting fellows, including airfare both ways and living expenses, for the entire period of their stay in Korea.


2. Eligibility

Fellowships are available to the following applicants:


(1) Mid-career professionals who hold a doctoral degree in a relevant academic field, or have equivalent levels of professional and research experiences.

(2) Southeast Asian nationals who are currently employed or working in a research institution, university/college, or other relevant institutions in ASEAN member states.

(3) The research topic proposed by the applicant should be in the area of international relations of Southeast Asia or include ASEAN-related matters that have relevant policy implications for ROK or ROK-ASEAN relations.



3. Duration

The duration of fellowship is a fixed term of 90 days (3 months) between June and September 2024, during which visiting fellows will reside and conduct research in the ROK.


4. Fellowship Responsibilities

The visiting fellows are expected to complete the following requirements:

(1) Write one policy report on the proposed research theme (up to 30 pages)

(2) Give two presentations on the research during seminars organized by KNDA

The specifics could be determined in consultation and coordination with KNDA. The Visiting Fellows will be encouraged to participate and engage in seminars and conferences organized by KNDA and to interact with researchers in KNDA and broader policy community in ROK.


5. Benefits

The fellowship will provide with following benefits:


(1) A round-trip economy-class air ticket

(2) Monthly stipend for the cost of living

(3) A research grant on condition that the fellow completes the required fellowship responsibilities stated above within the research period.

(4) Fellows will be provided with access to office space and supplies, computing and printing facilities, a landline telephone, and access to the KNDA library and other KNDA facilities.


6. Application Procedures and Deadline

Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

(1) Application form

(2) Curriculum Vitae (up to 6 pages)

(3) Research proposal detailing your research theme and plans during the proposed visit (3-5pages)
