Minister of Foreign
Affairs Park Jin will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who will
visit Korea from August 11 to 12, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday,
August 12.
The two sides will
exchange views on the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in other regions,
global issues including climate change and the situation in Ukraine, and
preparations for the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting is also
expected to serve as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the UN
and Korea as a global pivotal state that upholds universal values, including
liberal democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
Secretary-General
Guterres’ upcoming visit to Korea marks the first since his official visit to
Korea to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter
Olympic Games. He will be accompanied by other high-level UN officials,
including the Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs, the
Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, and the Assistant
Secretary-General for Climate Action.
