Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Choi Youngsam

September 7, 2021 14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will deliver video congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony of the 23rd Future Leaders' Conference today, Tuesday, September 7.

The upcoming Conference will be held for four days in a hybrid online and offline format to muster Korean future leaders’ capabilities, build networks among them, and strengthen the bond with their homeland.

In his congratulatory remarks, Foreign Minister Chung will welcome and offer encouragement to about 140 Korean future leaders from 26 countries around the world who will take part in the Conference. He will also ask them to play a central role in creating a bright future for Korean communities abroad.

The Korean government will continue efforts to promote co-prosperity of overseas Korean communities and the Republic of Korea, while listening to the voices of Koreans abroad.

Next, on September 15, Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will have a meeting with State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi, who will visit Korea from September 14 to 15 at the invitation of Foreign Minister Chung.

In their meeting, the two Foreign Ministers are expected to have a broad exchange of views on issues of mutual interest, including Korea-China relations, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and regional and global affairs.

State Councilor Wang’s visit to Korea comes about ten months after his visit in November last year, and the Korea-China Foreign Ministers’ meeting comes about five months after the last one held in China on April 3 this year.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects the upcoming meeting to serve as an important opportunity to explore various ways for future-oriented development of bilateral relations, ahead of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and China next year.
