Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will make an official visit to Thailand and Laos from August 26 to 29.

The upcoming Southeast Asian tour by Foreign Minister Chung is the second one following the visit to Viet Nam, Singapore and Indonesia in June. Particularly, it is the first official bilateral visit to Laos by a Korean Foreign Minister in about 20 years since 2002.

During his Southeast Asian tour, Foreign Minister Chung will meet with the foreign ministers and high-level officials of Thailand and Laos and hold in-depth discussions on cooperation in COVID-19 response, the way forward for bilateral relations, and key regional and global issues.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects Foreign Minister Chung’s visit to contribute to advancing bilateral relations and pursuing the New Southern Policy more effectively.
