Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha will have a virtual meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark Jeppe Kofod on October 20 at the latter’s request.

In the meeting, the two sides will review the progress in cooperation on the ROK-Denmark Joint Action Plan that has been carried out since 2016, and discuss ways for bilateral cooperation, including on climate and environmental issues such as the P4G Summit and the Green Growth Alliance. In addition, Minister Kang will ask for Denmark’s support for the ROK candidate for the World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Taeho will attend the “Ministerial Roundtable on the Central Sahel: Responding to Humanitarian Challenges in a Long-Term Perspective (Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger)” on October 20.

The meeting will be held to call the attention and solicit support of the international community regarding the humanitarian situation in the central Sahel that is deteriorating due to climate change, COVID-19, and terrorism. Vice Minister Lee will propose the international community’s way forward to respond to the humanitarian crisis in the central Sahel, and announce the ROK government’s commitment to actively participate and make contributions.
