- Award Ceremony for “UN 80th Anniversary Commemorative Contest” -
On August 11, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the award ceremony for the “UN 80th Anniversary Commemorative Contest,” which was conducted from May 20 to July 6 for both Korean and foreign nationals residing in the Republic of Korea.
This year’s contest featured two categories -- short-form videos and illustrations -- and a total of sixteen entries were selected as award-winning works.
※ In the short-form video category, one entry was awarded a Grand Prize, another a First Prize, and two others Excellence Awards.
※ In the illustration category, one piece was given a Grand Prize, another a First Prize, and ten others Excellence Awards.
For the short-form video category, participants were invited to create works “promoting the UN’s key agendas.” The Grand Prize was awarded to the entry titled “For Peace, Human Rights, and a Sustainable Future,” which used a real-time drawing technique to depict the UN’s values -- peace and security, human rights and sustainable development -- built over the past 80 years in a continuity from monochromatic to vibrant colors.
The illustration category was themed “The UN’s Past, Present and Future, and the Republic of Korea.” The Grand Prize was awarded to the piece titled “Knotted Peace, Continuing Future,” which used the motif of a “figure-eight knot” to express the hope that the Republic of Korea and the UN will continue to cooperate across various fields going forward.
At the ceremony, Shin Heesun, Deputy Director-General for International Organizations and Nuclear Affairs, expressed appreciation to all participants for their creative interpretations of the values and achievements the UN accumulated over the past 80 years. She also emphasized that the Republic of Korea, in close cooperation with the UN, will continue to lead efforts within the international community to effectively respond to global challenges. She stressed that the public’s attention and participation serve as the most important driving force in carrying out and expanding these efforts worldwide.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to promote the UN’s key goals and values as a responsible member contributing to the international community, while also working to enhance public understanding of the Republic of Korea-UN cooperation.
