The government of the Republic of Korea strongly protests the Japanese government’s opening of additional halls at the so-called “National Museum of Territory and Sovereignty” in Tokyo today with the aim to strengthen unjust claims over Dokdo, and urges the closure of the museum once again.
It is deeply regrettable that despite the ROK government’s repeated calls for the closure of the museum since its opening in 2018, the Japanese government has expanded it. The Japanese government should be clearly aware that repeatedly making unjust claims over Dokdo, which is clearly an integral part of the ROK territory historically, geographically and under international law, is in no way conducive to the efforts to establish a future-oriented relationship between the ROK and Japan.
