1. To support the safe and secure operation of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants under the threat of military conflict, the Republic of Korea government has decided to provide assistance worth approximately US$1.2 million to Ukraine through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in an inter-agency effort involving four nuclear security-related Ministries and Commission*.
* The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission.
ㅇ The ROK announced its assistance plan at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting held in Vienna, Austria, from 6 to 10 June.
2. The assistance will be utilized to support expert missions or purchase necessary equipment and supplies through the IAEA in order to ensure the safety and security of nuclear power plants, management of radioactive waste and implementation of safeguards measures in Ukraine.
3. The Republic of Korea government will continue its active support for the IAEA’s efforts to ensure the safe operation of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, and will proactively join international efforts in promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
