1. First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyundong had a meeting with Kazakhstan Deputy Foreign Minister Adil Tursunov from 15:00-15:40 on Thursday June 2. They engaged in an extensive exchange of views on a broad range of issues of mutual interest, such as the development of the bilateral relations; the promotion of substantial ties of cooperation between Korea and Kazakhstan; and cooperative ties at the multilateral and international level.

2. Vice Minister Cho welcomed the visit to the Republic of Korea following the launch of the new Korean administration. The two sides agreed to engage in shared efforts to even further advance the bilateral ties through the expansion of exchanges between high-ranking officials.

3. Vice Minister Cho and Deputy Foreign Minister Tursunov valued that the solid ties of cooperation between the two nations in such fields as trade, investment, and energy are yielding fruit. They agreed to further expand the mutually beneficial joint efforts in the economic field on the path ahead.

- In particular, from the perspective of economic security, Vice Minister Cho hoped for the strengthening of collaboration in the field of the supply chain such as uranium and rare earth elements with Kazakhstan, a country rich in energy resources, and expressed the hope that Korean companies may participate in bids for Kazakhstan's nuclear power plant. Deputy Foreign Minister Tursunov responded that the participation of Korean companies in bids for the Kazakhstan nuclear power plant would be welcomed.

4. Moreover, with this year marking the 30^th anniversary of the bilateral ties, they expressed the wish to hold various commemorative events in the second half of 2022 including cultural performances, exhibitions, and film festivals, thereby further promoting the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding between their peoples.

- Vice Minister Cho greatly welcomed and valued the opening of the Kazakh Consulate General in Busan last month which will serve to facilitate exchanges between the peoples of the two nations.

5. Vice Minister Cho explained that the Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum, which has established itself as a valuable channel for multilateral cooperation, is scheduled to be held in Korea in the second half of this year.  The two Vice Ministers agreed to work together for the successful holding of the forum.

6. Deputy Minister Tursunov expressed his appreciation for Korea’s participation in the CICA (Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia) which was launched in 1992 on the initiative of Kazakhstan, the current chair of the conference. He expressed the hope that the two countries would further strengthen the shared efforts through CICA on the path ahead.

7. The meeting proved meaningful, providing an opportunity for the new Korean government to share with Kazakhstan the direction of their diplomacy and policies as encapsulated in the aim of serving as a key state playing a pivotal role at the global level, contributing to freedom, peace and prosperity. It was an occasion for the two sides to engage in a valuable exchange of views on the direction of the endeavors for the further nurturing of the ties between the two nations.
