Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement between Korea and Spain to Enter into Force

1. The Agreement between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Spain regarding Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Matters (“the Agreement”), which was signed on June 16th, 2021 by the foreign ministers of both countries, will enter into force on December 24th, 2021.

 

2. The Agreement will help reinforce the institutional foundation regarding cooperation in customs matters between the two countries and is expected to contribute to the expansion and facilitation of trade between the two countries.

 

o The Agreement between the two countries stipulates strengthening cooperation to ensure the security and facilitation of the international trade supply chain, reinforcing the application of the laws related to customs matters and assuring the accurate assessment of customs duties and taxes, providing information and administrative assistance to prevent and respond to customs offences, providing information regarding illicit trafficking of sensitive goods (arms, psychotropic substances, etc.) and so on.

 

3. With the entry into force of the Agreement with Spain, the ROK has Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements with a total of 25 countries in effect. The Korean government will continue to actively seek the conclusion of Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements to ensure the facilitation and security of international trade.
