1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong held a meeting with the Director-General of Expo 2020 Dubai and Minister of State for International Cooperation of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy on October 9, 2021 during his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

∘ Minister Chung commended the successful opening of the Expo 2020 Dubai despite the ongoing COVID19 pandemic and requested the UAE’s support and cooperation for the Korean government’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan.

∘ Minister Al Hashimy expressed her gratitude for Korea's participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, and agreed to share the UAE's successful experience in hosting the Expo and to continue to engage with the Korean side. 

2. Prior to the meeting, Minister Chung visited the Korean and UAE Pavilions participating in the Expo 2020 Dubai and delivered words of encouragement to KOTRA officials and volunteers.

*The Dubai Expo Korean Pavilion ranks 5th in size out of all participating countries.

3. In addition, on October 9, Minister Chung held a roundtable meeting with Korean businessmen to tune in on difficulties related to business activities in the UAE.

∘ Participants expressed appreciation for the assistance rendered by the Korean Embassy in the United Arab Emirates and the Consulate General in Dubai, and requested the government’s support in alleviating their difficulties related to ongoing projects and their stay overseas.

4. Minister Chung will move to Abu Dhabi on October 10 to meet with Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and pay a courtesy call on Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
