Outcome of Korea-Thailand Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Don Pramudwinai on August 27 to extensively discuss ways for bilateral cooperation and major regional and global issues during his visit to Thailand from August 26 to 28.
 
● Both sides issued a Joint Press Statement containing the key outcomes of the meeting.


2. The two Foreign Ministers welcomed that next year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Korea-Thailand Strategic Partnership, and agreed to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation focused on health, future industries and green economy partnership with a view to enhancing bilateral relations in the post-COVID-19 era.


● Foreign Minister Chung explained difficulties faced by Korean businesses and Korean residents in Thailand under the COVID-19 situation and asked for the Thailand government’s special attention to ensure their resolution. In addition, Foreign Minister Chung requested that the Thailand government provide various incentives to Korean businesses so that they can expand their investment in Thailand.


3. The Foreign Ministers agreed to continue strengthening bilateral relations within the frameworks of ROK-ASEAN and ROK-MEKONG cooperation. Foreign Minister Don appreciated that the Korean government is strengthening ROK-Mekong cooperation through financial contribution to the Mekong-ROK Cooperation Fund and the ACMECS*.

4. Foreign Minister Chung appreciated Thailand’s firm support for the Korean Peninsula Peace Process and asked for Thailand’s unwavering support for the Korean government’s efforts to achieve peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula as well as the denuclearization of the Peninsula.


● Foreign Minister Chung extended appreciation to the Thailand government for its active cooperation in the recent evacuation to Korea of Afghans who supported the Korean government’s activities in Afghanistan, and Foreign Minister Don highly commended the Korean government for its evacuation of the Afghans to Korea on humanitarian grounds.
