Minister of Foreign Affairs to Attend G7 Foreign and Development Ministers’ Meeting

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will attend the Group of Seven (G7) Foreign and Development Ministers’ Meeting to be held in London, U.K., from May 4 to 5.

 

° The meeting is expected to be attended by foreign ministers of G7 member countries and guest countries (Republic of Korea, Australia, India and South Africa), foreign minister of Brunei (chair of ASEAN) and ASEAN Secretary-General.

 

2. Minister Chung will participate in sessions on the Indo-Pacific region, open societies, health and vaccine, climate change, education and gender equality with G7 member and guest countries. He will also deliver Korea’s commitments to contribute to sustainable post-pandemic recovery and building prosperous future ahead of the G7 Summit to be held in Cornwall, U.K., from June 11 to 13.

 

° Minister Chung will discuss ways to promote coordination between Korea’s New Southern Policy Plus and other countries’ initiatives on the region, urge the need for stronger international cooperation to achieve equitable access to vaccines, and deliver Korea’s plans to contribute to global climate response and development cooperation.

 

3. Minister Chung will hold bilateral talks with participating countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, the European Union and India on the occasion of the Meeting. He is also seeking to hold bilateral talks with other participating countries.

 

4. The Korean government will continue to seek ways to contribute to the G7 Summit agenda based on discussions at the Meeting and government-wide consultations.
