1. A video conference, co-chaired by Mr. Byun Chul-hwan, Director-General for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs, and Mr. Cui Aimin, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, took place on July 23, 2020 to discuss ways to gradually increase people-to-people exchanges between the Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China, which have subsided due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the meeting, the two sides commended each other for both countries’ efforts for and achievements in disease prevention and control amid the spread of COVID-19 across the world, and exchanged views on ways to gradually vitalize people-to-people exchanges between the two countries that have contracted due to COVID-19, as well as other key consular issues.
° In the meeting, the two sides shared the understanding on the need to work together to reinvigorate people-to-people exchanges between the two countries that have decreased due to the COVID-19 crisis and agreed to further bolster communication to that end.
° The two sides drew the common understanding that,
pursuant to the “Consular Agreement between the Republic of Korea and the
People’s Republic of China,” they should continue to expand consular
cooperation and protect the health, safety, rights and interests of their
nationals staying in each other’s countries.
