5th ROK-Sudan Policy Consultation to Take Place

1. The 5th ROK-Sudan Policy Consultation will take place in Seoul on October 20, with Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Kwon Hee-seog of the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and General Director of Bilateral and Regional Relations Dafalla Al Haj Ali of the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs leading their respective delegations.

* Meanwhile, before holding the policy consultation, General Director Ali will pay a courtesy call on Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Kim Hong-kyun.

2. In the consultation, the two sides will discuss issues of mutual concern, including the current state of the ROK-Sudan relations, ways to expand trade and investment, development cooperation, and cooperation on the global stage, as well as ways to enhance substantive cooperation between the two countries. They will also exchange views on regional situations.

o In particular, in order to expand trade and investment between the two countries, the ROK side will ask the Sudanese side to cooperate in concluding an agreement on avoidance of double taxation and in streamlining procedures for issuing visas for entry into Sudan.

o Furthermore, the two sides will discuss the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, as well as the situation in East Africa, including Sudan.

3. The upcoming policy consultation, which will be held as part of the ROK government’s efforts to strengthen diplomacy towards Africa, marks the 14th meeting which the Foreign Ministry holds with an African country this year. The ROK government will continue to strengthen friendly and cooperative relations with African countries by facilitating dialogue channels with the countries.
