1. During the state visit to Korea by Brazilian President Cardoso, Minister Lee Joung-binn and Brazilian
Acting-Minister of Foreign Affairs Seixas Correa will sign the "Agreement for Cooperation in the Peaceful
Uses of Nuclear Energy" and the "Agreement on Abolition of Visa Requirements" on January 18, 2001.

2. The Agreement for Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy stipulates the following:
cooperative measures between the two countries in such areas as reseach and development, as well as
planning and construction of nuclear energy plants; and obligation of peaceful uses of nuclear substances
and equipment. The conclusion of this agreement is expected to provide a legal foundation for the
promotion of bilateral cooperation in the development and uses of nuclear energy for peaceful means.
Korea has now concluded Agreements for Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy with the
total of 14 countries, of which 13 of them have come into effect.

3. The Agreement on Abolition of Visa Requirement allows the peoples of Korea and Brazil to pay mutual
visits without visa within 90 days, which is expected to strengthen bilateral friendship between Korea and
Brazil through promotion of more people-to-people exchanges. Korea has now concluded Agreements on
Abolition of Visa Requirement with the total of 58 countries, of which 57 of them have come into effect.
