1. The EU Commission decided to terminate anti-dumping procedures on Korean microwave ovens as of
January 5, 2000. The decision was made based on the anti-dumping expiry review on microwave ovens that
were imported from 4 countries, including Korea.
2. Anti-dumping duties were imposed on Korean microwave ovens since January 4, 1996. However, the
interim review results in September 2000, led to a withdrawal of anti-dumping duties on products made by
LG Electronics and Daewoo Eletronics. Thus, two other companies, Samsung Eletronics and Ilshin, have
been paying anti-dumping duties until now.
3. Regarding this recent decision by the EU, all Korean microwave ovens will not be subject to anti-dumping
duties. A further increase is expected in Korean microwave oven exports to the EU, worth about $56 million
per year.
