Outcome of Telephone Conversation between Foreign Ministers of Korea and Czech Republic



1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong spoke with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jakub Kulhanek on the phone on July 9 and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including Korea-Czech bilateral relations, nuclear power plant cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and the promotion of trade and investment


 


2. The two Foreign Ministers noted with appreciation that Korea-Czech relations have intensified since the establishment of the Strategic Partnership in 2015, as could be seen from the record-high trade volume last year despite the COVID-19 pandemic.


 


° Foreign Minister Chung stressed that Korea would be the best partner for the Czech Republic’s nuclear power plant construction project as it has high technology, delivers on-time construction and has cost competitiveness in the field. Foreign Minister Kulhanek mentioned that the Czech side is aware of Korea’s outstanding capability in the field.


 


° The two Foreign Ministers looked forward to reactivating travel and people-to-people exchanges as soon as the COVID-19 situation improves, and Foreign Minister Kulhanek hoped for investment in the Czech Republic by Korean companies competitive in future industries including the EV battery sector.


 


3. Foreign Minister Chung explained the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and extended appreciation for supporting the Korean government’s efforts to establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, and Foreign Minister Kulhanek reaffirmed the Czech government’s will to support the Korean Peninsula Peace Process.
