1. On June 4, Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong met with Senators of the United States Tammy Duckworth from the state of Illinois, Dan Sullivan from the state of Alaska, and Chris Coons from the state of Delaware, who were on a visit to the Republic of Korea, at his residence. In the meeting, they exchanged views on the ROK-U.S. alliance, Korean Peninsula issues, and regional and global challenges.

 
2. Minister Chung explained the outcomes of the Summit between the ROK and the U.S. in Washington, D.C. on May 21. He highlighted that President Moon and President Biden agreed on expanding cooperation beyond security issues on the Korean Peninsula, to the partnership on vaccine and supply chain, as well as response to global challenges such as climate change and COVID-19, which reinforced the ROK-U.S. alliance in a “comprehensive, constructive and mutually beneficial” manner.

 
3. The Senators mentioned that the ROK is the first overseas destination of the bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Congress since the outbreak of COVID-19, while emphasizing the importance of the ROK-U.S. alliance. They added that the ROK-U.S. Summit on May 21 was a successful meeting demonstrating robust ROK-U.S. alliance and partnership on global cooperation. They also committed to their continuous support for the development of the ROK-U.S. alliance in the U.S. Congress.

 
4. Minister Chung extended appreciation for the U.S. Congress’ strong support for the ROK-U.S. alliance, and requested its continuous attention and support for the issues on the Korean Peninsula as well as backing Korean corporates’ activities in the U.S. and legislation allocating a professional visa quota for Koreans.
