ROK-India Dialogue on Disarmament and Non-proliferation Takes Place

1. Mr. Park Il, Director-General for Nonproliferation and Nuclear Affairs, together with Mr. Indra Mani Pandey, Additional Secretary in charge of Disarmament and International Security Affairs in the Ministry of External Affairs, held a Republic of Korea-India Dialogue on Disarmament and Non-proliferation in the form of video conference between Seoul and New Delhi on August 20.


2. During the Dialogue on Disarmament and Non-proliferation, the two sides discussed various topics, including creating an environment for nuclear disarmament and future arms control regimes; existing multilateral arms control regimes such as the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC); space security; and multilateral export control regimes.


3. The ROK side explained its efforts to move the Korean Peninsula peace process forward, adding that the ROK will continue to work with the international community, including India, to that end.


4. The two sides agreed to hold the Dialogue on a regular basis and to step up communication at relevant international fora, including the Geneva Conference on Disarmament and the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly.
