Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Meets with Vietnamese Ambassador to ROK Nguyen Vu Tu

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Sei-young met with Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the Republic of Korea Nguyen Vu Tu on the afternoon of June 15. Ambassador Tu, who took up the post in early 2017, will soon return to Vietnam after finishing his service in the ROK for more than three years.



2. Vice Minister Cho said that Ambassador Tu had contributed greatly to the significant development of the ROK-Vietnam relations in many areas during his three-year tenure, and expressed appreciation for his hard work.
 


o In addition, Vice Minister Cho highly commended the Vietnamese government’s active support for the ROK amid the COVID-19 pandemic by assisting repatriation of Korean nationals and granting special entry to Vietnam for essential workforce from the ROK, including business people.


 
3. Ambassador Tu said that he was pleased to finish his nearly 40-year diplomatic career as Ambassador to the ROK and he would cherish his experience in the ROK. He also said with confidence that the ROK-Vietnam relations will advance further for the next 27 years, building upon the accomplishments for the last 27-odd years since the establishment of diplomatic relations in December 1992.



o In this regard, Ambassador Tu noted that it would be particularly important to further promote exchanges and other forms of educational cooperation between future generations of the two countries.
 


4. Vice Minister Cho stressed that the two countries will be able to further strengthen their special cooperative relations by overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic together, and suggested that the two countries continue to reinforce cooperation not only on the bilateral level, but also on the regional and multilateral level.


 

o Ambassador Tu said that he would continue to extend all possible support to advance the ROK-Vietnam relations.
