Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Has Telephone Conversation with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Taeho had a telephone conversation with Mr. Keith J. Krach, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment of the United States, on the morning of June 5, during which the two sides took note of cooperation between the governments of the Republic of Korea and the United States in coping with COVID-19 and exchanged views on key economic matters of interest between the two countries, including the ROK-U.S. Senior Economic Dialogue (SED) and the global economic security initiative of the U.S.



2. The Vice Minister and the Under Secretary, as head delegates of the ROK and the U.S. to the bilateral SED, agreed to hold a director-general-level consultation in the form of video conference in late June to prepare for the next ROK-U.S. SED in the U.S. in the second half of the year.


 
° Under Secretary Krach explained various international economic issues that the U.S. is interested in, including the Economic Prosperity Network initiative, and the two sides agreed to continue consultations on these issues.


 

° The Under Secretary expressed appreciation to the ROK for accepting the invitation to the G7 Summit, which was discussed during the telephone conversation between the Presidents of the ROK and the U.S. on June 1, during which the U.S. side spoke about the initiative to expand the G7 Summit. Under Secretary Krach voiced hope that consultations among the G7 related countries would produce good results on this matter.
