1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha met with Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Yannick Glemarec at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 4, and exchanged views on developments regarding climate change in the international community, and the GCF's first replenishment.

2. Minister Kang congratulated Executive Director Glemarec on his inauguration, and took note of the steady growth of the GCF as an international organization in climate finance that has appropriately responded to the urgency of global climate change. Especially, Minister Kang said that the GCF’s continued role and support are important to assist developing countries in their domestic efforts to implement the Paris Agreement, including their efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

o Executive Director Glemarec especially stressed that the ROK, as a country listed in Non-AnnexⅠ of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as well as donor country to the GCF, is in a unique position where it can lead the international community’s discussions on climate change, and asked the ROK to play a leading role.

3. In addition, as this year is an important one when the GCF pursues its first replenishment process, the two sides voiced hope that the GCF would complete the process successfully, sending a positive signal regarding climate change response to the international community.
 
4. The two sides also discussed the UN Climate Action Summit 2019 and the governance of the GCF.
