Foreign Ministry to Sign MOU with Chungcheongbuk-do

□ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minister Kang Kyung-wha) will sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation with Chungcheongbuk-do (Governor Lee Si-jong) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Tuesday, April 30.
○ The ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stressed on cooperation with provincial governments aiming at building public diplomacy capacity. As part of this goal, the ROK Foreign Ministry will sign the MOU on cooperation with Chungcheongbuk-do.

□ On the occasion of the signing of this MOU, the ROK Foreign Ministry will actively support the provincial government to successfully hold a number of international events such as the 2019 Chungju World Martial Art Masterships and a chinese student festival.
○ On top of that, the MOU involves information exchanges in cooperation areas of economy such as helping the provincial government to discover new overseas markets as well as areas of culture, art, sports and tourism.
○ The two sides agreed to work together to build public diplomacy capacity, one of the main goals pursued by the ROK Foreign Ministry.

□ The ROK Foreign Ministry hopes to support external cooperation led by the provincial government through the signing of the MOU and contribute to reinforcing national diplomacy capacity through diplomatic diversification.
