<Outcome of Meeting between ROK and Polish Directors-General for Cultural Affairs>

1. A meeting took place in Warsaw, Poland, on July 5 between Director-General for Cultural Affairs Lee Eun-yong of the Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Department of Cultural and Public Diplomacy Malgorzata Wierzejska of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting with Poland, an outpost for the ROK’s cultural diplomacy in Central Eastern Europe, marked the second of its kind held nine years after the one in 2008.

2. In the meeting, the two countries reviewed the progress in their cultural cooperation; shared with each other their respective policies regarding public diplomacy; and exchanged views on ways to work together on events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations as well as in the fields of culture, arts and sports.

○ The two sides noted with appreciation their efforts to steadily step up cooperation in the full range of relevant areas, including culture, arts, education and sports, since the conclusion of the bilateral Cultural Agreement; and voiced hope to further discuss ways to boost cultural exchanges and cooperation in a wider range of areas.

3. The two sides, in particular, drew a common understanding that various cultural events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties on 2019 will lead to more robust cultural exchanges across the board and will help bolster the foundation of cooperation in the long term.

4. Starting with the meeting on July 5, the two sides are expected to continue close consultations regarding the special occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Going forward, the ROK Foreign Ministry, through soft power-based cultural diplomacy to win hearts of Polish people, will seek further to promote its friendly and cooperative ties with Poland.
