The Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Belgium and the European Union held the EU-Korea Strategic Cooperation Forum on Tuesday, October 14, in Brussels, in cooperation with the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
The event brought together policymakers from the European Commission and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), academic experts from Europe and Korea, and members of the diplomatic corps based in Belgium. Participants reviewed the current global security landscape and discussed the growing need to strengthen strategic cooperation between Korea and the EU in the fields of security and defense.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador RYU Jeonghyun emphasized that the security environments of the Indo-Pacific and Europe are closely interconnected. He expressed his hope that the forum would serve as a meaningful opportunity to explore ways in which the EU, Korea, and Indo-Pacific partners could work together to promote international peace and security.
Luis Simon, Director of VUB CSDS, also highlighted in his congratulatory remarks that cooperation with Indo-Pacific partners is essential for ensuring Europe’s security, adding that Korea’s expanding strategic partnership with Europe could play a crucial role in achieving the EU’s defense and security goals.
