On Tuesday 9th December 2025, the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney co-hosted the Korea-Australia Business Partnership Forum alongside KOTRA and the Australia-Korea Business Council, with support from Austrade.
In his opening remarks, Consul-General Yong Jun Choi emphasised the importance of Korea-Australia collaboration in critical minerals and the energy transition. He noted that Korea and Australia could benefit from each other’s strengths in raw materials and technological expertise. Consul-General Choi expressed his hope that the forum would lead to more opportunities for collaboration.
Several New South Wales and Australian government figures contributed to the conference, including the Honourable Anoulack Chanthivong, Minister for Industry and Trade, and Dr. Paul Grimes, CEO of Austrade. Representatives from the NSW Government shared insight into current opportunities for investment and collaboration within the state.
Ms. Clare Pope, Board Director of the Australia-Korea Business Council, reflected on ways to shape the future of the bilateral economic relationship, and Mr. James Choi, Managing Director of J2 Advisory and former Australian Ambassador to Korea spoke on the geopolitical headwinds impacting economic ties. Korean and Australian business leaders also spoke about current opportunities and challenges in both critical minerals and the energy transition.
