Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha will preside over a video conference among the heads of all of the overseas diplomatic missions of the Republic of Korea on the evening of July 9.

The forthcoming conference will feature Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun’s video message and discussions on the situation of the spread of COVID-19 as well as ways to protect the overseas Koreans, support Korean businesses and lead international cooperation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha will have a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on July 10.

The two Ministers spoke over the phone for three times in 2020. At the first face-to-face Foreign Ministers’ meeting to come since the outbreak of COVID-19, the two Ministers will commemorate the 40 years of diplomatic relations between the ROK and the UAE and discuss ways to further develop their “Special Strategic Partnership.”

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Taeho will deliver opening remarks at the “2020 Youth NPT Conference ” on July 10.

This event is in line with the United Nations General Assembly resolution titled “Youth, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation,” which was sponsored by the ROK government and adopted by consensus in 2019. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to lead youth’s participation in discussions on disarmament and non-proliferation, including through this event to take place to mark the 50^th anniversary of the NPT’s entry into force.
