Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

On January 10, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha will meet with Speaker of the parliament of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK), and exchange views on the ROK-Latvia relations and situations in such regions as the Korean Peninsula, among others.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha will have a bilateral meeting with Secretary of State of the United States (U.S.) Mike Pompeo in San Francisco, the U.S., on January 14.

The Minister and the Secretary will assess the developments toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula and discuss the way forward as well as ways for a comprehensive and mutually beneficial development of the ROK-U.S. relations. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues, including the current situation in the Middle East.

The forthcoming meeting will be the 10^th meeting between the Minister and the Secretary since their inaugurations. This ROK-U.S. foreign ministerial meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the ironclad ROK-U.S. alliance and to help step up their collaboration on regional and global levels.
