Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

First, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha will chair the 4^th meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the 2019 ASEAN-Republic of KOREA Commemorative Summit on October 11.

During the forthcoming meeting, the participants will review the progress in preparations for main programs, including the special events of the Commemorative Summit, the Summit agenda and the outcome documents.

Moving along, on October 14, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Sei-young will host a luncheon for a total of about 50 former volunteers of the Peace Corps of the United States (U.S.) and their families, who will visit the ROK at the invitation of the Korea Foundation.

The U.S. Peace Corps dispatched about 2,000 people to the ROK throughout 1966-1981 to carry out activities in such areas as education and healthcare.

In his remarks at the luncheon, Vice Minister Cho will extend appreciation to the Peace Corps volunteers for their hard work for and contribution to the socio-economic development of the ROK as well as for their bridging roles in promoting the ROK-U.S. relations.
