Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha left the country this morning to attend the 9th Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting among the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan and the People’s Republic of China.
The meeting will take place in Beijing, China, on August 20-22 in three years after the 8th meeting was held in Tokyo in August 2016. During the meeting, the foreign ministers will review the progress in the trilateral cooperation and exchange in-depth views on the way forward for the trilateral cooperation as well as matters of common interest, including regional and global affairs.
On the occasion of the Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will come an ROK-China foreign ministers’ meeting later this afternoon and an ROK-Japan foreign ministers’ meeting on the afternoon of August 21.
The ROK government hopes that the upcoming Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will help further advance the trilateral cooperation mechanism and improve bilateral relations in Northeast Asia.
