Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

First, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha will visit the Russian Federation on June 17, and meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey LAVROV.

In the meeting, the two Ministers will review the progress in implementing the measures to follow up on the Republic of Korea-Russia summit in June last year; discuss ways to advance the relations between the ROK and Russia with next year marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations; and exchange views on the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in major regions, as well as ways to work together on the global stage.

Moving along, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Sei-young will attend a reception marking the “Africa Day” hosted by the African Diplomatic Corps in the ROK on June 12 on behalf of the ROK government, and deliver congratulatory remarks.

In his congratulatory remarks, Vice Minister Cho will explain the ROK government’s efforts to strengthen Korea-Africa partnership, including the establishment of the Korea-Africa Foundation, and high-level exchanges.

Lastly, on the same day, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Tae-ho will attend the “2019 Korea-Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Future Cooperation Forum” co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy and Finance under the theme “Partnership towards Innovation and Growth.”

At the Forum, ministerial- and vice ministerial-level officials from nine Latin American and Caribbean countries will share their countries’ policies for innovation and growth, and discuss ways for the ROK and Latin American and Caribbean countries to work together. In his opening remarks, Vice Minister Lee will stress the need to step up substantive cooperation between the ROK and Latin America and the Caribbean, and to expand future-oriented cooperation through innovation and growth between the two sides.
