Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Relations Noh Kyu-duk

February 14, 2019  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

First, let me read to you the statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the crisis in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The government of the Republic of Korea expresses concern over the ongoing serious political chaos in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela surrounding the outcome of the presidential election held in the country in May 2018.

The government of the Republic of Korea urges Venezuela to hold as soon as possible a presidential election in accordance with its constitution and in a democratic, transparent and trustworthy way; and hopes that, by doing so, the country will resolve the chaos and conflict and restore stability.

Moving on to the second and last topic, Vice Foreign Minister Lee Tae-ho will meet with new Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Alisjahbana.

The meeting will cover ways to step up cooperation between the ROK and UNESCAP.

Thank you.

(A question-and-answer session followed.)
