Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

The signing ceremony of an agreement for cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Dongguk University in providing consular education and nurturing experts will take place on January 16.

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and President of Dongguk University Han Tae-sik will sign the agreement, and have a conversation to discuss cooperation in nurturing experts in consular affairs.

The Foreign Ministry and Dongguk University will open a class on consular service, and continue to work together to create a society of consular affairs and hold academic conferences.

The signing of the agreement, along with the “consular assistance act for the protection of the nationals of the Republic of Korea overseas” proclaimed today, is expected to contribute to providing consular assistance that meets the actual needs of Korean nationals, and establishing a public-private cooperation system to increase Korean nationals’ interest in safety abroad.

To protect Koreans overseas and strengthen consular service, the Foreign Ministry will continue a range of efforts regarding related institutions and cooperation between the public and private sectors.
