Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Relations Noh Kyu-duk

October 11, 2018  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Today, I have four announcements to make.

First, Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will meet with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Costa Rica Lorena Aguilar Revelo at 15:30 today.

In the meeting, the two senior diplomats will discuss ways to advance the Republic of Korea-Costa Rica relations and to bolster substantive cooperation in such sectors as infrastructure and environment.

Moving along, Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will meet at the Foreign Ministry later today with a delegation from the African Union (AU), which is on a visit to the ROK for the second ROK-AU policy consultation.

In the meeting, the two sides will discuss ways to work together, including in effectively using the ROK-AU cooperation fund and implementing the ROK-Africa framework of cooperation.

Thirdly, Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will attend the joint meeting of the Korea-Japan Parliamentarians’ Union and the Japan-Korea Parliamentarians’ Union to take place at a Lotte Hotel, Seoul, on October 15.

At the event, which will come in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the “Korea-Japan Joint Declaration: A New Korea-Japan Partnership towards the 21st Century,” the two Parliamentarians’ Unions, two of the most significant friendship groups in terms of the ROK-Japan relations, will exchange views on ways to enhance the relations between the two countries, among others.

In his celebratory remarks, Vice Minister Cho will hail the “Korea-Japan Joint Declaration” as a clear milestone for the ROK-Japan relations, asking the two Parliamentarians’ Unions to pay attention to and make efforts toward advances in the bilateral ties.

Lastly, Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will meet with a delegation from the American Jewish Committee (AJC) on October 15.

The AJC is a group that has been building strong cooperative networks with Asian countries through its affiliated Asia Pacific Institute (API). Fifteen people from the organization, including its Executive Director David Harris, will attend the meeting.

In the meeting, Vice Minister Cho will ask for the AJC’s support and cooperation on the efforts to achieve a complete denuclearization and a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula as well as to beef up the Republic of Korea-United States alliance.

Thank you.
