Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Relations Noh Kyu-duk

September 4, 2018  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

First, Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will attend the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Conference on Global Citizenship Education (GCED), to be held at Lotte Hotel Seoul on September 5.

The upcoming event is the third international conference on GCED to be hosted by the government of the Republic of Korea, and UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding. The event aims to increase people’s awareness at home and abroad to promote and spread GCED, which was included in the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015.

In his welcome remarks, Vice Minister Cho will talk about the implications of GCED, receiving attention as an education agenda to respond to global issues, as well as what contributions the ROK is making. He will also ask for the international community’s continued interest and contributions.

The conference, which will bring together GCED experts and activists around the world, is expected to become a good opportunity to strengthen the ROK’s leadership in the area of GCED.

Moving on to the next topic, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Yoon Soon-gu will hold the 10th ROK-Brazil high-level policy consultation with Undersecretary General for Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Henrique Sardinha in Seoul on September 5.

Drawing upon the results of the ROK Prime Minister’s visit to Brazil in March last year, the two sides will discuss ways to step up substantive cooperation between the two countries in a range of areas, including political and economic affairs, and science and technology.

They will also exchange views on regional situations, including those on the Korean Peninsula, and in Latin America, as well as ways to work together on the global stage.

Thank you.
