Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Today, I have two announcements to make.

First, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will attend a “National Assembly forum on diplomacy with the people” in Yeouido, Seoul, on September 3.

The event has been organized to declare the year 2018 as the first year of “diplomacy with the people,” to seek a broader support from people with regard to the relevant policy, and to explore ways to draw participation from people in the field of diplomacy.

The forum will feature opening remarks by Chairman Kang Seok-ho of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, words of encouragement by National Assembly speaker Moon Hee-sang, and congratulatory remarks by Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and senior lawmakers.

The event is expected to help the National Assembly build a deeper trust in and support for “diplomacy together with the people.” 

Moving on to the second and last topic, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas of the Republic of Belarus will visit the Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 4.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Dapkiunas will meet with Vice Minister Cho Hyun and then hold, together with Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Yun Kang-hyeon, the fifth meeting of the ROK-Belarus joint committee on economy, science and technology.

In the joint committee meeting to come in two years since the one held in May 2016, the two sides will review the progress in the bilateral relations; and extensively discuss ways to boost trade and investment and to step up cooperation in various sectors, including science, technology, information and communications technology (ICT), transportation and infrastructure.
