Deputy Director-General for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Scientific Affairs Yun Hyunsoo Elected as Chair of OECD CCXG

1. Yun Hyunsoo, Deputy Director-General for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Scientific Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been elected as Chair of the Climate Change Expert Group (CCXG) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with support from all member states of the CCXG at its meeting on March 18.

 

o The CCXG Chair (three-year term) leads and facilitates proceedings over CCXG meetings and related forums, advises the CCXG Secretariat on work programme, and supports activities to promote the CCXG.

 

2. The OECD CCXG was established in 1993 and consists of OECD members and/or Parties or countries listed in Annex I of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Group analyzes negotiations issues regarding the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement and discusses ways to advance negotiations, and is also recently expanding its discussions to cover ways to implement the Paris Agreement.

 

o In particular, the CCXG holds a “Global Forum” with experts from major developing countries twice a year, and contributes to the development of each country’s climate change policies by sharing opinions and experiences on common issues of interest.

 

3. Deputy Director-General Yun Hyunsoo, as Chair of the CCXG, will actively play the role of facilitator for communication and mutual understanding, helping the CCXG members and experts enhance the effectiveness of climate action including carbon neutrality as well as focusing on increasing analytical understanding of climate change negotiation issues such as global carbon markets, transparency and reporting.
