Outcome of Telephone Conversation between Korean and Canadian Ministers of Foreign Affairs

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong talked over the phone with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Marc Garneau on February 17 and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including substantive cooperation between Korea and Canada, Korean Peninsula issues, and regional and global affairs.


2. The two Foreign Ministers agreed that Korea and Canada, strategic partners sharing such values as democracy and free trade as well as responsible middle power countries, will work more closely together in resolving issues of the international community, including response to COVID-19 and climate change.


3. The two Foreign Ministers agreed to further intensify substantive cooperation between the two countries in such areas as trade and economy, and to continue seeking ways for cooperation on artificial intelligence (AI) and in other fields of the fourth industrial revolution, an area of shared interest between the two countries.


4. Minister Chung extended appreciation to Canada for its contribution to the efforts to establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, asking for its unwavering support and cooperation for progress in the Korean Peninsula peace process.
