Minister of Foreign Affairs Holds Telephone Conversation with her Polish Counterpart Rau

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha spoke over the phone with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Zbigniew Rau on the afternoon of October 20, and discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and the selection of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General.

 

2. The two Ministers noted with appreciation that the ROK-Poland strategic partnership has been developing in various fields, and agreed to continue to expand the areas of cooperation between the two countries.

 

o Minister Rau expressed satisfaction over bilateral cooperation on economic and investment affairs, and hoped to expand cooperation with the ROK, Poland’s important partner, to cybersecurity, water resource management, and health.

 

o Minister Kang agreed with Minister Rau’s proposal to expand cooperation, and asked for Minister Rau’s attention to support Korean companies’ activities in Poland and participation in Warsaw’s new airport construction project.

 

3. Minister Kang asked for Poland’s support for Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee, who has advanced to the final round of the selection process for the WTO Director-General, and Minister Rau mentioned that Minister Yoo has qualifications required for WTO Director-General.

 

4. Minister Kang said that she was pleased to have her first phone conversation with Minister Rau since his inauguration in August, and the two Ministers agreed to continue close communication through high-level exchanges at various levels.
