Minister of Foreign Affairs Has Telephone Conversation with her Indonesian Counterpart

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha had a telephone conversation with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Retno L.P. Marsudi on the morning of September 24 and exchanged views on COVID-19 response and the way forward for the Republic of Korea-Republic of Indonesia relations.

 

2. The two Ministers shared the understanding that the ROK and Indonesia should continue communication and cooperation in the areas of national defense and security on the basis of their deep trust as special strategic partners.

 

3. The two Ministers also noted with appreciation that, even amid the spread of COVID-19, the two countries have been smoothly implementing streamlined entry procedures to facilitate travel of essential personnel, including business people, since agreeing to the arrangement on August 17, and agreed to step up cooperation toward the post-COVID-19 economic recovery.

 

4. Minister Kang asked for support for Minister for Trade Yoo Myung-hee, who had advanced to the second round of the selection process for the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Minister Retno spoke highly of Minister Yoo, who has demonstrated competence in the negotiations over the ROK-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

 

5. The two Ministers agreed to continue communication and close cooperation to make progress in bilateral substantive cooperation in various areas, including COVID-19 joint response.
