ROK-China Director-General-Level Meeting on Delimitation of Maritime Boundaries Takes Place

1. A director-general-level meeting on the delimitation of maritime boundaries between the Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China took place on July 22 in a video format.

 

° The meeting was the first to be held in 2020 following the 2nd vice minister-level official meeting in Beijing, China, in July 2019 and the 6th director-general-level meeting in October 2019.

 

The ROK and Chinese head delegates to the meeting were Director-General for International Legal Affairs You Ki-jun and Ambassador for Yellow Sea Affairs Wang Xiaodu of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, respectively.

 

The ROK delegation was composed of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant government agencies, including the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

 

2. By continuing to hold the director-general-level meeting even amid the COVID-19 situation in the form of video conference, the two sides have maintained the momentum of bilateral negotiations and exchanged a wide range of views on overall issues related to the delimitation of maritime boundaries between the two countries.
