2nd ROK-Germany Bilateral Consultation on Disarmament and Non-proliferation Takes Place

1. The 2nd Republic of Korea-Federal Republic of Germany Bilateral Consultation on Disarmament and Non-proliferation took place on June 24 in the form of video conference between Seoul and Berlin, chaired by Mr. Park Il, Director-General for Nonproliferation and Nuclear Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, and Mr. Rüdiger Bohn, Deputy Federal Government Commissioner for Disarmament and Arms Control of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.

 

2. During the Consultation, the two sides exchanged views on various topics, including strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime, such as through the preparation for the Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT); cooperation in multilateral arms control regimes such as the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW); and the need for the multilateral dialogue on emerging issues such as space security and new technologies weapons.

 

3.  The two sides agreed to hold the Bilateral Consultation on a regular basis to step up cooperation in strengthening the multilateral disarmament and non-proliferation regime. The 1st ROK-Germany Bilateral Consultation on Disarmament and Non-proliferation was held in January 2019 in Berlin.
