1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha, who is on a visit to the Federal Republic of Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference, had a bilateral meeting with Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs François-Philippe Champagne on the morning of February 14.

2. The two Ministers noted with appreciation that the Republic of Korea and Canada have been closely cooperating in a range of areas, and agreed to continue active efforts to expand high-level exchanges and substantive cooperation between the two countries in the near future.

o Noting that this year marks the 5^th anniversary of the entry into force of the ROK-Canada FTA, the two Ministers shared the view that there is great potential for economic cooperation between the two countries, and agreed to further encourage industrial cooperation to increase the volume of bilateral trade and investment.

3. In addition, the two Ministers shared assessments of the current situation on the Korean Peninsula, and reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to the denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.

4. Minister Kang said that with ten years left until the 2030 deadline for implementing the Paris Agreement and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the ROK will host the second P4G Summit in Seoul from June 29 to 30 to achieve concrete results, and asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to attend the Summit and share the experience of Canada, playing a leading role in the fields of climate change response and green growth.

5. Furthermore, the two Ministers exchanged views on issues and situations in and outside the region, including the response to the novel coronavirus outbreak, as well as cooperation on global issues. As like-minded countries sharing such values as free trade and democracy, the two sides also agreed to further expand cooperation on the global stage.
