1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the 5th Busan Global Partnership Forum in Seoul on December 4-5.

The Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) is a consultative mechanism on development effectiveness launched in 2012 as a result of the High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness held in Busan in 2011. The government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) has contributed to the development of the mechanism by holding the Busan Global Partnership Forum since 2014.

2. The Forum brought together about 200 participants from about 40 countries and 10 international organizations including Vice Prime Minister Elysée Munembwe Tamukumwe of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Minister of Finance Mustafa Kamal of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. At the Forum, the participants discussed ways for contribution of development effectiveness in implementing Sustainable Development Goals.

3. In his opening remarks, Vice Minister Lee Tae-ho underscored that it is important for the GPEDC to steadily develop in line with the changing development environment and enhance the participation of new donors based on its merits as an inclusive multi-stakeholder consultative mechanism.

4. The Forum has played a meaningful role as a platform for sharing experiences of efforts that global policymakers and practitioners have made with a view to bringing about the outcomes of effective development cooperation.

The ROK government will continue to drive discussions on development effectiveness and make efforts to mainstream the development effectiveness agenda into the global development cooperation discourse.
