1. The 8th High-Level Policy Consultation between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will take place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 25, co-chaired by Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs Kang Jeong-sik and Deputy Director General and Head of the IAEA’s Department of Safeguards Massimo Aparo.

* Deputy Director General Massimo Aparo attended the 7th ROK-IAEA High-Level Policy Consultation held in November 2018 as head of the IAEA delegation.

2. At the upcoming High-Level Policy Consultation, the two sides will extensively discuss ways of cooperation between the two, including the IAEA’s readiness to return to the DPRK, key issues regarding the implementation of the IAEA safeguards, and the ROK-IAEA cooperation on the IAEA safeguards.

° Notably, with the inauguration of new IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi set to take place on December 3, 2019, the Consultation is expected to serve as a good opportunity to discuss ways to expand and develop the close cooperative relations between the ROK and the IAEA.

3. The ROK-IAEA High-Level Policy Consultation was first held in 2013 and has since taken place for 8 consecutive years, including this year. It is regarded as a channel for strategic communication between the two sides.
