1. The government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) has decided to extend humanitarian assistance of 100,000 USD in cash through the World Health Organization (WHO) to help respond to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Outbreak in Larkana district, Sindh province of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
○ According to the WHO, the HIV was spread mainly in Larkana district last May with 906 people diagnosed with the virus as of July 1, 2019 (including 743 children aged under 15 (82%)).
2. The decision for support was made considering that HIV is spreading rapidly and the majority of the victims are children. The assistance from the ROK is expected to help tackle the challenges that people affected by the virus in Larkana district face.
3. The ROK government will continue to join the international community’s efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases including HIV, measles and Ebola.
