1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host the “9th Forum on the Korea-Caribbean Partnership” under the theme “Environmental cooperation partnership for sustainable growth” in Seoul on July 10.

2. At the Forum, the ROK government will invite a number of experts, including participants from nine Caribbean states, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC); and jointly explore ways to promote environmental cooperation for sustainable growth with the Caribbean states.

○ The ceremony of the Forum will feature opening remarks by Director-General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jo Yung-joon; and congratulatory remarks by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Alistair Edwards.

3. The Caribbean states, vulnerable to the climate change and natural disasters, have put a top priority on increasing environmental cooperation with the international community; and has repeatedly called for the international community’s attention and support on various global stages, including the United Nations General Assembly and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) Summit.

Amid growing interest in this issue of the Caribbean island countries, participants from the CARICOM; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas; the Korea Meteorological Administration; and the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology will give presentations on “Korea-Caribbean cooperation in addressing the climate change and natural disasters” in the first session of the Forum.

○ In the second session under the theme “Korea-Caribbean cooperation in the field of renewable energy,” presentations will be made by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Suriname, the Korea Energy Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and the Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI).

4. At the forthcoming Forum, various ways for cooperation will be discussed on such matters as the climate change and natural disasters, as well as renewable energy, the key issues in the Caribbean region. As such, the future-oriented cooperative partnership between the ROK and Caribbean states is expected to become much stronger.
