Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary

1. During her visit to the Slovak Republic for the 3rd Republic of Korea-Visegrad Group (V4) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on June 7, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó. In the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue close cooperation on the search operations for those who had gone missing after the boat accident in the Danube River as well as on the accident investigation.


° Minister Szijjártó mentioned that with cooperation of the Slovak Republic, Hungary had controlled the water level of a dam on the upper Danube River for minutes, and a large crane for salvaging the boat had moved to the place where it can carry out its task. He added that close coordination is underway with countries along lower parts of the Danube River to expand the scope of search operations.

 

- The Minister went on to mention that personnel of the consular affairs bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is maintaining the around-the-clock, seven-day readiness to swiftly render consular assistance to the families of the Korean victims. He added that cooperation will be extended to the extent possible for a speedy search for the missing and for the convenience of the families of the victims.

2. Minister Kang extended appreciation to the Hungarian government, saying that its active cooperation and warm consolation from Hungarians are of great help to the Korean people. The two Ministers agreed to make their utmost efforts until the last missing person is found.


3. At the 3rd ROK-V4 Meeting of Foreign Ministers and the joint press conference held before the ROK-Hungary foreign ministerial meeting, Minister Kang expressed appreciation to the V4 countries for their assistance and cooperation on the search operations for those who had gone missing after the boat accident. At the ROK-V4 Meeting of Foreign Ministers and the joint press conference, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajčák of the Slovak Republic, which is holding the Presidency of the V4, conveyed deep sympathy for the Korean victims of the boat accident, stating that cooperation will continue in the search for the missing and in handling the aftermath of the accident.
