Outcome of ROK-US, ROK-Japan and ROK-US-Japan Meetings of Chief Negotiators on North Korean Nuclear Issue Held on Occasion of Shangri-La Dialogue

1. Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Stephen Biegun, Special Representative for North Korea of the United States, in the Republic of Singapore on June 1.


° The two sides shared the understanding that now is a very crucial moment in resuming and achieving tangible progress in dialogue between the United States and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea; and agreed to continue working closely together for an early resumption of dialogue.


° In particular, the US side underscored that it remains committed to continued negotiations with the DPRK to make progress on all the commitments from the Singapore joint statement.


° The two sides took note of the close coordination underway between the Republic of Korea and the United States, and agreed to continue communication and consultations between the two countries.


2. Prior to the ROK-US meeting, Amb. Lee held a trilateral working dinner with the US and Japanese chief negotiators on the North Korean nuclear issue on May 31, followed by a bilateral working breakfast with the Japanese chief negotiator on June 1, during which they discussed ways for ROK-US-Japan and ROK-Japan cooperation.
